Join us for a special preview of our forthcoming issue—which will feature a symposium asking the question “What is beauty for?”—at none other than the Sonic Sphere, a suspended concert hall housed for a limited time at the Shed in Hudson Yards. First conceived of by the modernist composer Karlheinz Stockhausen and intended for “immersive, unforgettable encounters,” there may be no better space to introduce the concerns of the next issue.
On Tuesday, June 20th, philosopher Agnes Callard and Point founding editor Jonny Thakkar will take to the Sphere to hold a public conversation on the nature of beauty today. What is beauty, and why should we care about it? How do we learn to appreciate it? Does our love of beauty conflict with our moral and political obligations—and what should we do if it does?
